Personal Philosophy

Albert Einstein,“Never memorize something that you can look up.” 

Carl Sagan,“Science is not only compatible with spirituality; it is a profound source of spirituality.” 

When I first read these quotes, I changed my way of thinking in science; First, I did not like science much since there was a teacher at my school who used to make us read and study by heart only. Science includes our whole life in it: Our body, Our food, Our health, Our environment... The whole planet: Humans , Animals and Nature. All should be learned through experiences since Science Is Concrete.

"Science is best learned through experience.  To that end, we organize our students into small groups and provide each group with a trained volunteer.  Our volunteers introduce fun and relevant experiments which spark and maintain students’ interest. 

Most of our experiments are hands-on, requiring very little instruction.  Guided questioning is the best teacher of all, helping students to develop critical thinking skills. Each volunteer acts as a facilitator, making observations, asking questions, and guiding the students’ thought process.

We strive for a ratio of 1 volunteer to 6 students.  Keeping groups small allows our volunteers the opportunity to have meaningful discussions and personal interactions with each student. Volunteers stay with their students as they matriculate through our program, resulting in close mentor relationships which keep students engaged and motivated."

This article influenced me a lot while I was registering in university and choosing my emphasis in teaching science at elementary.
